Financial Assistance Scholarships

Generously funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Chater Masonic Scholarship Fund, Jane Gellman Scholarship, 3 scholarship schemes were set up respectively to offer up to full scholarship to students with financial needs, allowing them to join AFS Year Exchange Program, study abroad for one year and live with a host family.

Eligibility

  • Hong Kong student aged 15-18.5 (Click here to check birthday range)
  • Physically and mentally healthy
  • Successfully passed AFS selection
  • Have good grades and conduct
  • Passionate in intercultural learning
  • Recipient of Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) or School Textbook Assistance (TA) or Working Family Allowance (WFA)

Corporate Scholarships

The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, the Hong Kong and China Gas CompanySun Hung Kai Properties, Kerry Group set up their own scholarship schemes to offer full scholarships to their employee children, allowing them to join AFS overseas exchange programs.

ASIA KAKEHASHI Project + 2024

Duration: August 2024 – December 2024
Note: The schedule is subject to change.

Content: Japanese high school experiences with dormitory-stay or homestay

Fee: Full scholarship sponsored by the Japanese Government

Support: All participants will be supported by AFS Japan’s experienced local volunteers and professional staff during the program in Japan.

Eligibility criteria: Applicants to the program in 2024 must meet the following criteria:

A) Between 15 and 18 years of age, born after April 2, 2006 and before April 1, 2009;
B) Citizen of Hong Kong at the time of application;
C) Obtained minimum of 60% marks in principle in all subjects in the latest examination at school and overall minimum average of 60% marks in all subjects for the past two years;
D) Learners of Japanese. Participants for the Japanese speech contests are encouraged to apply and have priority for the selection,
E) Demonstrate strong potential of leadership to act as a bridge between the home country and Japan during and after the program; and
F) Not have participated in the ASIA KAKEHASHI program before.
G) Priority will be given to students of families with low incomes.
