AFS 2025 Selected Summer Study Tour

Denmark (Ranum International Summer School)

The educational concept behind “Efterskole” emphasizes personal development alongside academic performance. AFS and Ranum Efterskole College offer a 4-week summer exchange program that prioritizes the growth of students’ interests and the quality of core courses. This approach enhances key skills such as teamwork, creative thinking, and independence.

Course Selection

Students have the flexibility to choose their own courses, which include:

  • Core Subjects: Essential courses like English and Science.
  • Electives: More active or creative classes, such as outdoor education and design.
  • Extracurricular Activities : In addition to academic learning, students can engage in various extracurricular activities during afternoons and evenings, further enriching their understanding of Danish language, history, and culture.

This variety allows students to tailor their learning experience according to their preferences.

Language and Cultural Immersion

  • Participants become more confident in their English-speaking abilities while gaining a deeper understanding of Danish history and culture.
  • The program typically hosts around 500 students from various countries, creating a unique opportunity to interact with peers from diverse cultural backgrounds, which enhances social skills.

Spain (Malaga : Spanish learning & culture experience)

  • You will improve your Spanish language skills through an immersive experience of approximately 80 hours of Spanish language courses and cultural exploration.
  • The courses are taught by professional language teachers, and an assessment will be conducted at the beginning of the program to ensure you are placed in a class that best suits your level.
  • Live in a boarding school and study with AFS students from all over the world, allowing you to learn how to interact with people from different cultural backgrounds.
  • You will participate in a variety of activities and trips to gain a deeper understanding of the local culture, such as visiting museums, experiencing football, and exploring nearby cities.
  • Participate in classroom activities that focus on intercultural learning, self-confidence, personal growth, and teamwork.

Egypt (Culture, Sustainability, STEM)

Participants will visit significant sites in Cairo and learn about the historical narratives surrounding Islam and religion in Egypt. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) activities will also be integrated throughout the program. STEAM activities enrich STEM education by blending arts and design, fostering creativity, interdisciplinary collaboration, and enhancing communication skills. They also promote critical thinking, connecting STEM concepts to the real world and cultivating a lifelong love of learning. By adopting a STEAM approach, individuals can develop well-rounded skills.

Includes Admission: Visit to the largest archaeological museum in the world – The Grand Egyptian Museum. After 21 years of construction, it is located between the Giza Pyramids and Cairo. It opened for trial operations in October 2024. The museum features 12 main exhibition halls that showcase treasures spanning 70,000 years of Egyptian history across four eras, allowing you to delve into one of the world’s most mysterious civilizations. In July 2025, the Grand Egyptian Museum will have its grand opening, featuring an exhibition of all artifacts and treasures related to the Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun.

Kenya (Wildlife & Climate Change Program)

Through this exchange program, participants will enhance their understanding of climate change and wildlife conservation, strengthen connections and support with the local community, and promote cultural exchange to deepen their understanding of Masai culture. Starting from Nairobi, Kitengela, Naivasha, and Narok, the program will focus on learning about the impacts of climate change and response measures:

Locations

  • Nairobi: As the main city, it’s convenient for transportation and resources.
  • Kitengela: Close to Nairobi, suitable for community collaboration.
  • Naivasha: With its lake and ecosystem, it’s ideal for learning about water resource management.
  • Narok: Near Masai Mara, exploring the world-famous Masai Mara Wildlife Reserve.

Wildlife and Climate Change Learning

  • Participate in lectures and workshops, inviting experts to share the impacts of climate change on ecosystems.
  • Conduct field visits to observe ecological changes in different regions.

Community Service

  • Collaborate with local children’s care centers for volunteer service.
  • Provide educational resources and health checks to help improve living conditions in the community.

Cultural Learning

  • Engage in interactive activities with the Masai community, such as crafts, dance, and experiences of traditional customs.
  • Explore how Masai culture addresses the challenges of climate change.

Wildlife Migration Observation

    • Plan trips to Masai Mara during the best time to observe the great migration (typically from July to October each year).
    • Through guided tours and explanations, understand the migration process and its ecological significance.

Canada (Montreal or Ottawa)

  • The program will take place in a major Canadian City, either Montreal or Ottawa.
  • Participants will attend English lessons in the morning and explore Montreal or Ottawa in the afternoon through various activities.
  • Live in host family and participate in fruitful activities and trips to gain an in-depth understanding of the local culture.
  • Live and study in an English-speaking environment to improve your English proficiency from daily life.

Ireland (STEM learning)
